Why Should You Contribute Content to the Georgia Life Science Team-Up Network?
Posted on Jun 23, 2010 by Stacy Williams Shuker, Ph.D. |
I attended the Home Team meeting of the Innovation Crescent this morning at Gwinnett Technical College. This team provides connection and leadership for the 13 county region between Athens and Atlanta and is devoted to advancing the life science industry there. This is a very unique community of people from economic development, education, industry and government organizations. As I was listening to Ed Graham, Mary Margaret Garrett, Cinda Herndon-King, Nick Masino and Rusty Haygood talk this morning about all the great things that are going on in the Innovation Crescent, I was reminded again about how truly ground-breaking and innovative we are here in Georgia. The alliances and collaborations that have formed between our centers of bioscience excellence in Atlanta, Athens and Augusta have us poised to change the face of Georgia and to advance an industry that advances the human condition. As Director of the Center of Innovation for Life Sciences for the state of Georgia, I have the unique opportunity to see our tremendous resources and talent across the state. I also see how easily each facet of this complex industry can fall into silos or isolated pockets. That is why I think the successful collaborations like those in the Innovation Crescent are so critical to our state. The expansion of the life science industry here in Georgia will be dependent on people with scientific, business, legal, regulatory and marketing backgrounds to come together for the purpose of advancing innovation. I created the Georgia Life Science Team-Up Network exactly for this purpose. This growing network brings together people from all over Georgia to communicate good news and make connections. Economic developers, educators and local leaders who are devoted to advancing the life science industry in our state are also invaluable members of our community. We need you - the members of the Team-Up community - to share life science related information with us. We need to know about events that are happening in your area, as well as, any good news about new and existing companies in your counties. If it makes the paper in your town, then our network needs to know about it too. How do you share your good news and events? Sign up then go to our Blog section and create a blog post with your information. When you post it, I will approve it. The same is true for any events you want to publicize – just go to the Calendar and create the event and it will appear as soon as I can approve it. Make the Team-Up Network your network. Share the site with others and encourage them to participate with content too. We are all in this together – so let’s pull in the same direction.

Want to meet with a member of the ATDC staff and discuss your startup? You may schedule an appointment with an ATDC startup catalyst during their office hours. While it is possible to book an appointment by date it may be more productive to select a catalyst with expertise in your industry. Today I’m in Savannah serving as a judge, alongside my COI for Logistics counterpart, Page Siplon, at the 2010 Savannah Ogeechee Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Wow – if what I am seeing today is any indication of the future of Georgia, we all have wonderful things to look forward to! It is an amazing opportunity to see what the minds of Georgia’s young innovators have created. The science fair competition is taking place until tomorrow, so follow my tweets under the hashtag of #sorsef to get the latest updates. To learn more about the event, visit http://www.sorsef.org.
